Operations & Data Center Update

Over the past several months, the Datalliance Operations Group completed two infrastructure upgrades that have significantly improved the performance and reliability of the service, and performed our yearly disaster recovery exercise to test our ability to ensure service continuity in the event of a critical system failure.

In early December, after a three month period of planning and testing, the Operations Group migrated all interactive application connectivity from our legacy T-1 lines to a fiber Internet connection. This upgrade quadruples our service throughput speed and provides network level failover capability to our remote disaster recovery site.

A disk space expansion was completed to our SAN. In addition to increasing our storage capacity, allows us to better balance database space allocation across volume groups. As a result of this change, we saw a 30% decrease in overall backup times.

The disaster recovery exercise on February 10 was a success. We were able to restore production systems, connectivity, and processes within our allotted time of 24 hours. The exercise provided a tangible demonstration of return on the investments we have made in hardware, network, and facility redundancy over the last year.
