Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) is Not Just for "A" Items

Why Would I Let a Supplier Manage My Inventory? - An Introduction to Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) for Distributors

President's Update

We would like to thank all the attendees of the 2011 Datalliance Forum. The Forum was held May 23-25, at the Marriott Cincinnati Airport – a great new location that supported our continued growth. We put a special emphasis this year on customer experience and industry sessions and received positive feedback for all of our customer speakers: David Campisi, President/CEO, The Sports Authority, Mike Bulone, Director – Supply Chain, Johnson & Johnson, Tibor Egervary, VP of Sales, Ward Manufacturing, Vicki Repsholdt, Director, Channel Operations, Schneider Electric, Steve Fogolini, Director of Replenishment, Fleetpride, and others. This event is a unique opportunity to see first-hand how the Datalliance VMI solution is continuously evolving to meet your business needs. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2012.

The feature article in this edition of our newsletter discusses the success of a recent webcast sponsored by Datalliance and hosted by Consumer Goods Technology (CTG) Magazine. The response to the webcast titled “A New Look at VMI: How Dannon is Using VMI to Strengthen Retailer Relationships and Grow Sales”, highlights a renewed focus on Vendor Managed Inventory within the consumer goods industry, as well as continued growth in VMI activity across other industries. The webcast included presentations by representatives from Dannon, Gartner and Datalliance. The live event drew over 160 attendees including nearly 60 consumer goods companies and another 50 companies in the healthcare, plumbing, electrical, and industrial products industries.

As you can see by the “News” items below, VMI, Datalliance, and our customers continue to be active in the marketplace. I encourage you to take a closer look at the news items that catch your interest. We are very proud of the press release addressing our 20th anniversary. Our success and growth over the years would not have been possible without the tremendous support and collaboration that we receive from our customers. We thank you and look forward to many more years of mutual success.

Datalliance Webcast Indicates Growing Interest in Vendor Managed Inventory

Hosted by CTG with Presentations from Dannon and Gartner, Event Draws over 160 Attendees from Leading Consumer Goods Companies and Others

The response to a recent Datalliance webcast titled “A New Look at VMI: How Dannon is Using VMI to Strengthen Retailer Relationships and Grow Sales”, revealed a renewed focus on Vendor Managed Inventory within the consumer goods industry, as well as continued growth in VMI activity across other industries. The webcast was hosted by Consumer Goods Technology (CTG) Magazine and included presentations by representatives from Dannon, Gartner and Datalliance. The live event drew over 160 attendees including nearly 60 consumer goods companies and another 50 companies in the healthcare, plumbing, electrical, and industrial products industries. According to CGT, the Datalliance VMI webcast drew more attendees than any webcast they have hosted in over a year.

Carl Hall, Datalliance President, commented, “It’s interesting to see the number of large consumer goods companies taking the time to view this webcast – many of whom have already been doing VMI for years. The response confirms what many companies are telling us; they want to reinvigorate and expand their VMI program and that they are looking for a better and more cost-effective way of running their program.”

Paula Sawyer, VMI program manager for Dannon, explained how VMI is now a strategic initiative to work more closely with key retail partners and grow sales. Historically, Dannon’s VMI programs were supply chain-focused and transactional. “With our new vision, we are viewing VMI as an enabler to get closer to the store shelf,” said Sawyer. “We had to think differently -- look at the benefits beyond standard supply chain metrics.” This switch in mindset has resulted in shared benefits for Dannon and its customers, including increased sales, decreased costs and partnerships that ultimately result in greater shopper satisfaction.
