President's Update

Welcome to the mid-year edition of the Datalliance newsletter. VMI continues to be adopted across a wide range of industries and we are further establishing Datalliance VMI as the preferred VMI solution. Included in this newsletter are several press releases on companies such as Schneider Electric, Oatey Company and Hubbell that have recently selected Datalliance as the foundation for their VMI programs or have realized significant business results directly related to their VMI programs. In Hubbell’s case, their VMI program was recently recognized by Managing Automation magazine and was awarded the “Progressive Manufacturing” award. The award recognizes projects that have achieved distinction in at least one of eight core disciplines critical to business success in the years ahead. Hubbell’s VMI program was recognized in the “Customer Mastery” category. Congratulations to Hubbell on this industry award!

Datalliance customers were recently featured in an industry webinar sponsored and conducted by Truck Parts & Service magazine. Steve McEnany, VP Marketing & Technology, Midwest Wheel, and Max Buchanan, Datalliance Director of Sales for Automotive, Industrial, and Heavy Duty, conducted the VMI webinar with Derek Smith, Truck Parts & Service magazine editor. In addition to Midwest Wheel, VMI successes at Point Spring, Midway Truck Parts, and Kroeger Equipment were also presented in the webinar.

The feature article in this edition of our newsletter highlights the VMI success at Canplas and Consolidated Supply. Canplas is an innovation supplier and Consolidated Supply is one of the leading distributors for the plumbing industry. Please read the article below to see how VMI has helped both organizations deliver very positive business results.

Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone that attended the annual Datalliance Forum which was held May 18-19. The event represented the largest cross-industry gathering of professionals focused on Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) anywhere. Reflecting the growing interest in VMI and the growing Datalliance customer base, attendance was up over 50% from last year’s Forum.

Canplas and Consolidated Supply Use VMI to Deliver Greater Value

In the current economic climate, everyone throughout the entire Canplas supply chain wants to lower the cost of doing business. “The caveat for us is that any cost reduction must be done without impacting service levels,” says Ron Marsden, Canplas Vice President of Business Development . “Our objective was to find a better business process that would improve our working relationship with key wholesale distributor customers, such as Consolidated Supply.” After considering alternatives, Canplas determined that Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) would deliver the process improvements they sought.

  • Datalliance VMI has helped Canplas consistently exceed their target fill rate of 98% and reduce order time and effort by up to 60%.
  • Consolidated Supply VMI beneifts have been an increase in turns of 30% and a dramatic decrease in buyers time spent ordering Canplas products.
  • VMI has strengthened the business relationship between Canplas and Consolidated Supply by providing business benefits for both.

Operations/Data Center Update
In the first half of 2010, the Operations team continued to make improvements to our processing infrastructure to further increase the reliability, availability, and performance of the Datalliance services.

We began the year with a major investment in new backup systems, replacing legacy tape-based backups with a nightly, disk-based network backup system that automatically replicates all data to our off-site business continuity facility. By the start of business every morning, the previous day’s work is available not just at our main production data center, but also at the remote facility where we maintain duplicate systems to ensure the timely resumption of normal operations in the event of a catastrophic loss at our primary facility...

Customer Care Tip
What if I Have a Large Number of Records to Update?
